Last night, the iconic Toronto History Venue was transformed into the ultimate hot spot—not for “Hot Girls In Hell,” but for the hottest crowd in town, gathered to witness an electrifying lineup featuring hometown hero LOLO and the theatrical rock royalty of Marianas Trench. The result? A night that was equal parts high-energy concert and full-blown musical spectacle.

From the moment the doors opened, it felt like an entire generation of die-hard Trenchers and Downer fans (plus their mini-me offspring) flooded the venue. The History was brimming with energy, wall-to-wall from the pit to the soundboard, even before LOLO made her entrance.

Fresh from headlining her own UK tour and releasing her album Falling For Robots And Wishing I Was One, LOLO hit the stage like a lightning bolt, bringing enough fire to make you wonder if she’d been running on pure Tim Hortons coffee all day. For LOLO, this was a milestone moment—her first true hometown show despite growing up in Toronto’s North York. Adding Marianas Trench to a lineup of legends she’s played with (think Simple Plan, New Found Glory, and Mod Sun), she proved she’s on a fast track to becoming a Canadian music icon herself.

Her set was a perfect cocktail of alt-rock anthems and soul-baring ballads. With an almost mischievous grin, she introduced one song with, “This one’s about murder,” preparing the crowd for her signature mix of playful energy and raw emotion. By the end, LOLO had the audience completely under her spell. And if you missed her this time, mark your calendars—she’ll be back in March 2025 for her own headlining tour.

Marianas Trench, however, brought the house down in a way only they can. You might think you know what to expect from their shows, but they always manage to surprise. The night kicked off with AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” blaring through the speakers, pumping up the crowd as anticipation hit a fever pitch. The stage design stole the spotlight: a whimsical, theater-inspired setup complete with grass-covered risers, elevated platforms, and a dazzling light show that could rival a drone spectacular.

Launching straight into their newer hits, frontman Josh Ramsay took command of every inch of the stage—and even ventured into the audience—to connect with fans in a way that felt truly intimate despite the massive crowd. The 19-song setlist was practically a Trencher’s dream, featuring everything from “Desperate Measures” and “One Love” to a genius mashup of “Cross My Heart,” “Celebrity Status,” and “Shake Tramp.”

The night reached its emotional peak as the band closed with fan-favorites “Good to You,” “Stutter,” and “Haven,” leaving the audience awash in collective euphoria.
