There is a new venue that is giving artist some open air to play and Saturday night was no exception.
With the stage set and the Toronto skyline filling the back-round, The grounds at the OLG Play Stage filled up to watch Crown Lands and The Trews put on a show that had everyone out of their seats….But still in their cars. Guitarist/Bassist Kevin Comeau and Drummer/Vocalist Cody Bowles who make up the band Crown Lands from Oshawa, opened up the show with an amazing performance that is very powerful for a duo.
From their song “Mountain” to “End of The Road” these guys are truly locked in and have a bright light to follow. Don’t believe us? Just ask former White Stripes guitarist Jack White who the band opened for on his cross Canada tour in 2018. Check out their music on all your media platforms
After a very brief intermission, Lights go down and the music starts with “Cars” by Gary Numan blasting through the sound system to get the Drive In honking and ready to go. Stage lights go on and the Trews Anthem “Not Ready To Go” Kicks the set off. It was something music lovers have been waiting to hear. Power live sound right there in front of them and the Trews delivered.
The night was absolutely what you expected after what front man Colin says was 196 days off from the band playing live. All energy, full speed ahead with all the hits. Everything from “So She’s Leaving” to “Hope & Ruin” to “Tired Of Waiting”. Not only did the play all the hits, the boys did it all in style with a Nine song set, Three song acoustic set along with another Eight song set. The band also decided the Drive In was the place to have their live debut of “God Speed Rebel” which was released over the spring while everyone was under quarantine.
The Trews have always brought energy everywhere they’ve played. From Colin hitting the octaves, or John and Jack ripping into the harmonies, the show never disappoints. Saturday night a lot of things might have looked different, but if anything is left to say…..the music is still the same.
