TORONTO, ON – June 22, 2022 – Nomadic indie-folk musician, Tennyson King, is hitting the Canadian highways this summer for a cross country tour and it all kicks off July 7 in Kamloops, BC, at Music In The Park. The tour will see the Hong-Kong Canadian musician bring his latest album, Good Company, to life in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Watch the tour promo video here.
“I feel that a big part of the reason I perform so much and tour so much around the country is not only because I love it, but to also really represent the Asian/Chinese community in the live performance setting,” says Tennyson. “Growing up I rarely saw any one that looked like me on stage which made it hard to really imagine myself in the place that I am today. Even today, it is still rare to see Chinese musicians on stage in Canada. So part of my performing in front of people is to bring that awareness and inspire young asian artists. It’s why I think it’s important for me to play so much and definitely fuels me to keep at it.”
Nature is also something Tennyson holds dear to his heart and plays a big part in his writing process which can be heard throughout his debut album that was released in January this year. Life On Shore (Carry Me Away) comes from a state of interconnectedness with nature and water, Slow Down is an elemental and earthy take on acknowledging our surroundings and appreciating nature, Share This Moment is an ode to sharing experiences with other humans through travel and vulnerability, It Ain’t Easy is a catchy, rhythmic and upbeat track that sounds light in nature, but was written from an emotionally difficult time when Tennyson felt pressured to fit in with white Canadian music, while What Am I Doing is a reflection of the path Tennyson has chosen and the highs and lows of being a musician.
“I’ll be playing at some new venues and lots of outdoor shows which will give concert goers a chance to listen to me serenade them while they have the mountains and water as the backdrop,” adds Tennyson. “I’m just so excited to hit the road this summer and perform songs from my new album Good Company with people all over British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.”
In May 2021, Tennyson released his first Chinese language single, 生命的进度, in support of Asian Heritage Month and to represent a voice for Asian artists in Canada, followed up by 自在 in June. In September, Tennyson performed at the largest Asian music festival in the world, Joy Ruckus Club 4. Throughout the rest of 2021 and into March, Tennyson toured across the country in support of Good Company. His music was supported by SiriusXM’s North Americana channel, Stingray Music, several Spotify playlists, CBC Radio, and has been featured in various publications, such as: Eat North, BYTA: Method To My Music, Post City Magazine, Exclaim!, Toronto Life, Nature Canada, The RepresentASIAN Project, and OMNI News. You can also listen to his third Chinese language single, a rendition of Life On Shore (Carry Me Away), which was released in May 2022 for Asian Heritage Month.
“I’m grateful to be playing at the Steamboat Mountain Festival and Peak Music Festival for the first time this summer,” adds Tennyson. “Part of the tour will be performed as a duo with Chris Noble playing keyboards and adding an electronic rhythmic element to my show. I haven’t brought this set-up on tour and I’m excited to share with everyone. I’m really looking forward to connecting with everyone this summer!”
