It’s hard to believe that it’s really only been 5 years since I first put pen to paper (so to speak) to write the first ever post for Sound Check Entertainment. Back then it was called the Hoedown Blogger and the platform was under the banner of the Ottawa Citizen but had it not been for that day none of what followed would be possible.
Tim Hicks to headline country night at North Bay’s Summer in the Park
Another lineup announcement for one of our favourite smaller festivals in Northern Ontario. North Bay’s Summer in the Park announced the lineup for the annual event’s country night July 30.
Looking back at 2015
At the end of last year I looked ahead to 2015 and made a bold prediction that it would be bigger with more interviews with bigger artists, more festivals, more events and more contests. I could never have predicted exactly how much bigger the year would actually be.
Looking ahead to fall 2015
There’s no denying that the summer of 2015 was an incredible one for live entertainment with stellar line-ups at veteran festivals and even the addition of a few new ones including Way Home, Bestival, Capital Country Fest @ Spencerville Stampede to name just a few. Well hold onto your hats because fall 2015 is going to be even hotter and it all kicks off later this week, here’s our look ahead to some of the hottest events and tours still to come before we say farewell to 2015.
Navan Fair offers affordable fun for the whole Herd!
It’s August in Eastern Ontario, all of the major summer festivals have wrapped up and that can only mean one thing. Fair season is about to kick into high gear. One of the first of the season is this weekend’s Navan Fair. It may be one of the younger fairs in the region at 70 years young but that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to put on a party!
Powerhouse performances cap incredible weekend at Spencerville Stampede!
The sun had returned and the stands were packed for the third and final day of the rodeo by the time I arrived at the grounds for the closing day of the 4th annual Spencerville Stampede. Out of all three days of music we had assembled for the weekend Sunday’s lineup was my favourite as it was a fresh lineup for me.
Rain doesn’t dampen spirits at Spencerville Stampede
It was a great start to the day with the first full day of Ram Rodeo action in the rodeo ring. The stands were full and everyone had a blast. Weather was moving in for the evening but it didn’t seem to deter the fans that were busy streaming into the venue to get a spot close to the stage.
Introducing, This Man, Cory Marquardt
Northern Ontario native Cory Marquardt is fresh off the release of his hot debut cd, This Man, an opening spot for Toby Keith, on his western Canada stops, and a nationwide tour with Aaron Pritchett and King and Cash. This fall you’ll catch him at events across the country but tonight, July 26, Cory takes to the stage at Capital Country Fest @ Spencerville Stampede. We spoke to Cory about his start in music, his new album and his life on the road.
Tim Hicks brings the party back to Spencerville
It was the fall of 2014 we were approached by the folks at the Spencerville Stampede asking if we’d be interested in working with them on their 2015 entertainment lineup. Going into their 4th year this year the Stampede had always had a musical component but they wanted to raise the ante and bring some higher profile entertainment to the event.

Just in time for his appearance on the Sound Check Entertainment stage at Capital Country Fest @ Spencerville Stampede Brett Kissel has released the official music video for his latest single “Airwaves“.
