Last Thursday night in Toronto still feels like a distant dream that I am just trying desperately to cling to and remember!

So this week I had the chance to head down the QEW to Niagara Falls to hang with Tim Hicks in his Stompin Ground.  We took to the mound at Oakes Park to chat about his current album Shake Theses Walls.

It’s no secret that we are big fans of the folks over at Open Road Recordings from the behind the scenes people like Ron, Denny, Lindsay, Mitch as well as the amazing roster of talent.     The list of talent that includes the likes of Tim Hicks, Madeline Merlo, River Town Saints, Doc Walker, The Hunter Brothers, Blackjack Billy, The Road Hammers and Dean Brody.  It was a great way to kick off a Friday afternoon during CCMA Week in London.

So I was holding on to this one because Madeline will be performing THIS SUNDAY night at the CCMA Awards in London.  We had a chance to chat about her album, summer festivals and the love hate relationship with social media.  Check it out!

Last Wednesday & Thursday London became the Country Music Mecha for 2 days.  #RTP2016 – Gone Country brought some of Country musics biggest names such at Brad Paisley, Jake Owen, Dallas Smith & Tim Hicks to Harris Park in downtown London, Ontario.

In what has been an amazingly busy week of concert and festival coverage here at Sound Check Entertainment, we kept the crazy going by flying up Highway 400 to Muskoka on Saturday night. Tim Hicks returned to The KEE to Bala for his annual Summer Throwdown and man, it was CRAZY! This was a SOLD OUT show and, seriously, you could barely move within the cozy confines of The KEE.

So I thought I would start a new FRIDAY tradition where I post 2 or 3 of what I would recommend everyone hear / download / obsess about over the next week.   There is so much GREAT music out there and with a lot of it not making its way to terrestrial radio I thought this just might be a perfect opportunity to introduce some of you to some new artists / music.  So here is my inaugural post… And these four songs are currently on heavy rotation on my stereo…

Canada may have lost a music icon in Stompin’ Tom Conners, however, it doesn’t take long to find someone carrying on the honky tonk tradition of Americana style country music. Corb Lund, a true blooded Alberta boy, brought his Winter Campaign for the “Things That Can’t Be Undone” tour to The London Music Hall on Monday Feb 15, 2016, in London ON. 

This past fall we had a chance to sit down and have the very talented Madeline Merlo to cut a couple songs for our Mason Jar Sessions.   Here is the 2nd of those songs, her current single Whatcha Wanna Do About It.  My personal favourite of the two.   Crank it up!
