5 summers of Sound Check Entertainment
It’s hard to believe that it’s been half a decade already since it all began. Although for the first 4, or so, summers I was primarily the only writer there were a lot of people behind the scenes that ensured that I could get to the festivals and events. Here’s my look back at the first 5 summers.
BANKS to Perform at Bestival Toronto
It’s been a while since the initial line up for Bestival Toronto was announced. Yesterday they added L.A.’s BANKS to the roster. BANKS, known for her dark, sultry sound is a welcome addition to the festival. Arriving on the music scene in 2013, she’s made quite a name for herself quickly. Influenced by Fiona Apple and Lauryn Hill her tone draws you in and keeps you riveted. She’s toured internationally with The Weeknd in 2013. Bestival curator ROB DA BANK came across her at a show in London and became a fan.

To say that 2015 has started with a bang is a major understatement. It took the independent Sound Check over a year to hit 100,000 readers and we hit 200,000 in just the first month and a half of 2015.

Yes! Bestival is coming with the inaugural line-up for our Canadian venture. Featuring Bestival friends old and new, and a healthy dose of kick-ass acts from the UK, Canada and worldwide, nurturing the freshest, new, local talent, and showcasing some world famous showstoppers, it’s a statement of intent; and that intent is to party all weekend long! So much more than just a music festival, Bestival will be a creative wonderland set upon the iconic and picturesque Hanlan’s Point Beach, Toronto Island on June 12-13. Staged in conjunction with Canadian promoters Embrace and SFX Entertainment.
