This years festival marked the 15th Anniversary of Rock the Park and what better way to celebrate 15 years than with a double dose of Rock! Kicking off the festival on Wednesday night was Bobnoxious, The Lazy’s, Machine Gun Kelly, Chevelle and Shinedown. Closing out the festival Saturday night with the second night of rock with London’s own Texas King, Pop Evil, Theory, Three Days Grace and Rise Against.
First to the stage on Wednesday afternoon were locals Bobnoxious who came out swinging and got the crowd fired up and ready to party.
Next up were The Lazy’s hailing from Sydney Australia. This was my first opportunity seeing The Lazy’s and all I can say is without a doubt this is a band you need to see. From the raw punk rock sound to the fantastic hair all around these guys are the real deal. A band that leaves every ounce of energy on the stage and battles through a seriously sprained ankle on stage is a band that deserves some praise. A high energy set was just what the London crowd needed ahead of the day’s next artist.
Before the next artist took the stage the crowd chanted “MGK” at the top of their lungs. As Machine Gun Kelly took the stage Harris Park absolutely erupted. The fanbase this American rapper has is pretty incredible. The mix of genres and styles throughout his music is one that definitely resonates with not only the rap and hiphop crowd but also is embraced by the rock crowd.
Chicago natives Chevelle were next to take the Rock the Park stage. Personally I was extremely excited to see these guys perform and they definitely lived up to my expectations. Feeling a bit nostalgic, I was just as thrilled as the loud and rowdy Harris Park crowd when hearing “The Red” and “Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)” and “Face to the Floor”.
Closing out Wednesday night were Florida natives Shinedown. For anyone that was in attendance I’m sure we can all agree that that this show was incredible from start to finish. The lights, the fire, the energy, the jumps! It was everything you could ever want in a rock show. Playing hits like “Second Chance” from their album “The Sound of Madness” and “Cut the Cord” from the album “Threat to Survival” doing a cover of “Simple Man” which the crowd belted out along with lead singer Brent Smith to closing out the show with their newest single “DEVIL” from their 2018 album “ATTENTION ATTENTION”. The first night of Rock the Park kicked things off with a bang.
The second dose of rock came to us on Saturday night and closing out the 4 day festival was Texas King, Pop Evil, Theory, Three Days Grace and Rise Against one hell of a line-up if I do say so myself.
As the crowds flooding in locals Texas King took to the stage. This was my second time catching these guys this summer and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to see them on the bill. The energy that this band brings to the stage is absolutely infectious and they wasted no time getting the Rock the Park crowd going. This is definitely a band to keep your eyes on and if you haven’t had the opportunity to check them out yet I strongly suggest that you do!
Next up was America’s Pop Evil. I can honestly say I wasn’t entirely familiar with Pop Evil but I was definitely blown away. I would have to say overall however the highlight of this band was drummer Hayley Cramer who is by far the most badass drummer I have seen in awhile! She is so animated and so damn talented it’s such a thrill watching her play.
Canadian rockers Theory were next to hit the stage. Kicking off their set with lead singer Tyler Connolly sitting at a piano in the middle of the stage the crowd knew they were in for a great show.
Next up was Three Days Grace, talk about a band that comes out with a bang. Matt Walst walked on stage with a spiked leather jacket that didn’t last long before it was being pulled off and tossed across the stage. Playing through old favourites and rounding things out with tracks off their most recent release “Outsider” the band had the crowd getting good and fired up for headliners Rise Against.
Headliners Rise Against last rocked London in 2015 at this very place Harris Park during Rock the Park. This year much like 2015 the band took no time at all blowing fans away from the very first chord and the crowd went absolutely nuts. An 18 song set fully laced with bodies flying, mosh pits, crowd surfers and one hell of a light show. Throughout their set the band basically covered the majority of their amazing 19-year career including tracks “Saviour”, “Hero of War” and so many more!
We can’t wait to see what Jones Entertainment Group has up their sleeves for year 16 of Rock The Park!
