In late March, Brian John Harwood (of Kansas Stone) teamed up with Dustin Bird to craft a single to be released in support of the Unison Benevolent Fund. They set out with the goal to write and release a feel-good track to bring fans and artists together through these challenging times.
The video for the track is dedicated in loving memory of Capt. Jennifer Casey as it features clips from the Royal Canadian Air Forces’ Snowbirds and of Capt. Jennifer Casey herself, who was excited about spreading inspiration across Canada through her work on this project.
“We wanted to create something that was lyrically and musically unifying. With that in mind, the song came together rather quickly, and the next step was getting a few of our fellow artists on it.” -Dustin Bird.
With artists and various sectors of the music industry being negatively affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this project’s primary intention is to provide support via Unison to those in need.
“We reached out to a few of our friends with the plan and the song, asking if they’d like to be involved. The response was overwhelming to say the least.” -Brian John Harwood.
“Together We’re Strong” by Kansas Stone features 16 of Canada’s top country acts, including Chrystal Leigh (Sons of Daughters), Alee, Aaron Pritchett, Jason Blaine, Cory Marks, and the list goes on! Dustin Bird, who not only produced and co-wrote the Canadian country mega-feature, but is also featured on the track says “I believe that in a time of extreme adversity, we must remain unified. As Canadians and members of this industry, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to generate positive change through this art form.” Brian John Harwood is quoted saying “Staying positive together is the one thing that we have the power of doing. Unity is strength.” All proceeds from ‘Together We’re Strong’ are in support of the Unison Benevolent Fund to assist in keeping the music industry alive and well through this time of adversity.

“Now more than ever, members of our music community are depending on Unison’s COVID-19 Relief Program, and thanks to the generous efforts of the artists involved, every dollar raised from ‘Together We’re Strong’ will allow us to provide direct relief for music-makers and music professionals during this difficult time,” says Unison’s Executive Director, Amanda Power. “To donate, please text UNISON to 45678 or visit unisonfund.ca, and have your gift matched by Spotify.”
