Cocaine and crazy b*%c#&$, That was the menu at Barrymore’s in Ottawa this past Tuesday as California rockers Buckcherry hit the town.
Currently, on their Warpaint tour promoting the album of the same name, Buckcherry hit the stage opening with Nine Inch Nails “Head like a Hole“. Having a chance to see the setlist before they started I was puzzled by opening with a cover. Once they busted into it though, I quickly had a change of mind. Not only did they do the song justice but they played it as one of their own. Everyone pretty well knows the song, so it didn’t take much for the sold-out crowd at Barrymore’s to be singing along.
Moving right along into their high octane rock, the band was quick to bust into tracks like “Porno Star”, “Bent” and a new one-off of ‘Warpaint’ “Radio Song”. Frontman Josh Todd then mimicked some party like gestures and asked the crowd if they were ready to get “Lit Up“. The crowd responded with the bigtime enthusiasm and the band broke into the hit off of their 1999 self-titled debut album.
Guitarist Stevie D and Kevin Roentgen pack a one-two punch with they’re catchy riffs and ripping leads. Bass player Kelly LeMieux and drummer Francis Ruiz keep a solid and backline going throughout the night. Together they are very electric and entertaining to watch. Frontman Josh Todd is anything but stale with his performance on stage. Constantly on the move jumping around rocking out.
The rest of the night was a mixture of old and new with the likes of “Too Drunk to F%*K“, “Sorry” and “Right Now“. Closing the night off with their iconic hit “Crazy Bitch” got the crowd into a frenzy.
It’s hard to believe that these guys have been steadily on the go for 20 years. From the energy and enthusiasm the band has on stage I’m sure they will still be at it 20 years from now.
