For fans of epic superhero awesome sauce, when it comes to the big screen, Endgame is a new beginning of possibilities. There’s a lot of choice and seemingly endless directions. Within the source material, that thrilling vastness of comic book lore, there have been some epic team-ups. The Flash and Green Lantern! Deadpool and Spider-man! Ghost Rider and…Howard the Duck?
Ok, so they haven’t all been the sauce of awesomeness but O-town’s own geektastic conjoining of mighty entities is, bub!
No, for reals, you can drink it!
Once again, the beer masters over at Clocktower Brew Pub have careened into the Ottawa Comiccon, this time with a new trio to join the ranks of past offerings like Kapow!, Pint of the Living Dead, and, the one that really Wesley crushed it, HefeWheaton. Their new teammates, poured out at their official unveiling last Thursday, cull inspiration from a video game legend, the ultimate space opera spoof and vile villainy from the land of Florin.
Inconceivable, you say? Wrong you would be. The Schwartz is indeed strong with these ones:
Ludicrous Speed 4.8% 11 IBU
Celebrating the comic genius of Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs, this is an amber Scottish style beer more weighted in malt than in hops. A crisp dry finish with hints of caramel, coffee and milk chocolate. It is meant to be light bodied with a clean finish. Just the sample I had last week was worth all the air in Druidia. Trust me, downing one of these won’t have your brains going into your feet.
1-up Dry hopped sour 4.8%alc 25 IBU
If you’re like me, you’re going to have the iconic Super Mario Bros theme running through your head when drinking Clocktower’s extra life in a can! Heck, drink it faster and feel like you’ve snagged a star of invincibility. This hazy golden IPA is full of pine and grapefruit notes. Balanced perfectly with a mild sour. It is hop first with no bitterness. Your princess may be in another castle but, sorry Peachy, if I got a case of these you’re going to be waiting awhile longer.
Six-Fingered Ale 5.0% 10 IBU
Alright, The Princess Bride fans, I feel for you. Cary Elwes is unable to attend this year but, let’s face it, this brew named after the baddest of the bad wasn’t for him. I’m not talking about Vizzini, either. Count Rugan may have been vile…this beer is not. It’s a golden light refreshing ale full of flavour. Very light on the palate, it has some subtle notes of apple, pear, and orange. Not one taster dominates and leaves the palate clean ready for the next sip. Dare I say that even Inigo Montoya would raise a glass of this Comiccon Exclusive?
Three days of Ottawa Comiccon and three brews to try, sooooooo you’re gonna’ catch ’em all, right? Really, the only answer here is “as you wish.” www.ottawacomiccon.com
