Los Angeles’ own OTEP brought their Fire and Fury Tour to The Brass Monkey in Ottawa on July 18/18 to the delight of the crowd with their style of alternative and nu-metal.
Kicking the night off and setting the atmosphere for what was to follow was Ottawa’s own Ooluu who delivered a fascinating impressive performance. Eric Davindra put on a clinic with his strong vocals charming the crowd with his abilities. Equally powerful was the band playing and complimenting each other with their talents. A definite experience that crowd seemed to devour.
Up next were the Dropout Kings. The moment they got on stage they delivered a high paced, energetic and highly interactive performance that the crowd soaked in. How often does the chance to interact with one of the singers of the band singing and dancing around? The answer on this night was frequently. I really enjoyed the performance, particularly the way vocalist Adam Ramey walked out to the crowd and brought them in to participate in the song. Equally talented was vocalist Eddie Wellz who displayed his ability from the stage making this duo one fantastic combination. All around these guys have the right attitude to go far. You have to see these guys before they are elevated to the big stage where those special intimate performances are less and less.
To close out the night OTEP took the stage absolutely slaying their performance from start to finish giving the crowd a truly wild experience they will not soon forget. Their sound a devastating pounding of energy that rose and subsided along with the music. A heavy sound that suited the audience perfectly being glued to the stage for the entire set.
OTEP brought their Fire and Fury Tour to Ottawa for the first time was a special night for everyone. They took some time before the show meeting with fans who arrived early connecting with them give them that extra special moment.
Another nice touch was the soundcheck the band (without Otep) did performing the cover of “Raining Blood” (Slayer) for the crowd heating them up for what was to come. A very tight group that delivers a solid sound with bass and beat that drives this music through you.
The end result was a true remarkable show that if you haven’t caught in your town or city I’d recommend you get out and see. There really anything else like and OTEP show.
