After a day of severe weather and even a confirmed tornado RBC Bluesfest continued as normal with notable performances by Amos The Transparent, Angelina Hunter Trio, Avery Raquel, The War on Drugs and headliner Mumford and Sons.
In spite of the earlier severe weather large crowds, once again, descended on LeBreton Flats for night 6 of the 2023 RBC Bluesfest.
Ottawa’s own Amos the Transparent kicked things off on the RBC Stage while our friends the Angelina Hunter Trio opened things up under the tent at the SiriusXM Stage.
Canadian singer/songwriter Avery Raquel kicked off the festivities on the River Stage with her blended sound which is a mix of Soul/RnB/Funk with a sprinkle of Jazz and Blues. At 21 Raquel already has 4 solo albums, has charted on the Billboard charts and her latest album debuted at #5 on the Canadian iTunes Top 200 RnB/Soul Album chart. At the age of 21 I was….well I can’t remember but I certainly wasn’t experiencing anywhere near that level of success at anything beyond, maybe, beer pong.
The War on Drugs continued the show on the RBC Stage, one of the more recommended bands of the festival to date. By this time large crowds had already started to build in the main bowl area, perhaps not as large as Shania or the Foo Fighters but respectable to say the least.
London England’s Mumford & Sons closed out the night with an electric set, including an impressive fireworks show. Known for their live performances there was little question that they would be a wild card at this year’s RBC Bluesfest. At one point in the show everyone turned on their cell phone flashlights, or lit lighters if that’s still a thing, and the entire venue lit up. It doesn’t matter how often you see something like that it’s incredible to see every single time.
