Monster Spectacular, the ultimate sports and entertainment spectacle mixing racing, showmanship and the ultimate fan experience into one incredible, action packed live show, roared in to Ottawa last Saturday. The crowd gathered at the Canadian Tire Centre was not left disappointed as some of their favorites, including Bounty Hunter, Anger Management, and Train Wreck revved their engines and crushed everything in their path.

Fresh on the heels of a sold out show in Kingston, Ontario, fans young and old got an opportunity to see, smell and hear some of the biggest, most fine-tuned monster trucks on the circuit. The MCs got the crowd’s adrenaline pumping as soon as the show was set to start. The family-friendly event included suped-up lawnmower races, ATV races, breath taking freestyle motorcross stunts, and of course the main attraction, the trucks themselves.

The night got off to a solid start with what I thought was the highlight of the night. Freestyle motorcross stunts performed by death-defying riders had everyone gasping as they took flight. The performances seemed to become more and more risky until one rider actually performed a complete 360 flip. The audience chanted for him to do it again, and of course he obliged. The little boys around me were literally bouncing in their seats and couldn’t get enough.

Following some modified lawnmower races (don’t be fooled, this is not your father’s ride-on), the trucks made their first appearance. Joining this year’s lineup to form one of the most impressive collections of trucks to ever visit Ottawa was Train Wreck, an all-new truck from Lions Head, Ont. that debuted this year and has already registered five wins in its first eight races. Ultimately, after a few mechanical problems early on, the winner of the races this evening was Bounty Hunter. The 2017 Monster Spectacular champion Jimmy Creten and his truck returned to defend his title with over 1,500 horsepower to help muscle his way to victory.
