With Trump heading into office and Russia waiting with baited breath for basically anything to happen, we are all a little worried. But not the crowd at TD Place on Friday night. Filled to the brim with all age groups, but most were in their early teens, to see Mariana’s Trench.
Rapartee took to the stage first, and they rocked it. Meg Warren was electric, full of passion and glitz. With Bobby, Nick, and Josh filling this incredible foursome of talent. The Ottawa crowd though…what can I say…they need help warming up!
Shawn Hook, with a soulful voice and tickling the ivories, he warmed the crowd with power ballads from the heart. Slowly gaining power over the crowd, knowing the right set list would generate some love. Starting with the piano at the age of 4, and songwriting at 9, he has more experience than most. He used it well to end his set with a thunderous applause and every cell phone flashlight was on and waving in the air.
The stage was dimly lit and the screams of anticipation were loud and long. With everyone cheering, Josh Ramsay and the rest of the Mariana’s Trench gang took to the stage. Ian Casselman perched 15 feet above the main stage with a drum set that Tommy Lee would like. The screams get louder as they slowly start strumming to build that edge and grip this now alive crowd. And with a flash of one light, Josh utters one syllable and the crowd is on fire. With hit after hit, strong and loud, then soft and warming, we all sat in awe. There is so much raw talent in this band, JUST AWESOME! There are no other words.
The stage lights were on point, the sound guy working his magic, and the stage manager is even fired up! This is Rock & Roll! Marianas Trench, a Vancouver born band, making the Ottawa crowd creme in their proverbial pants. Well F’N Done!
TD Place is on fire right now, and from one music lover to another, I couldn’t be happier about it!
