Kip Moore brought his Me And My Kind Tour to Oshawa last Saturday night and boy was that a party.
Having seen Kip a couple times before, I have to say I was pretty pumped for this one. Kip brought along Jon Pardi and Meghan Patrick for the ride and let me tell it was one hell of a ride.
Things kicked off just after 8pm with one of Canada’s best young artists and hometown girl (Ok so she is from Bowmanville not the Oshawa but damn close) Meghan Patrick. For those that haven’t had a chance to catch a performance by the spirited artist all I can say is WOW. Meghan has the performance shtick down pat. There wasn’t a whole lotta room for her to jump around like she normally does but that didn’t stop her from delivering one heck of a performance. The one song that really seemed to resonate with the crowd was her current single Grace & Grit. With the crowd belting out the lyrics it was nice to see the “Hometown Girl” get the recognition that she so deserves. (Side Note we had a chance to catch up with Meghan before she hit the stage watch for that interview this Wednesday!)
After Miss Patrick got the crowd warmed up one of my personal favourite new artists took the stage. Jon Pardi has released his debut album and is supporting Kip on this tour. For those of you that may not have heard Jon Pardi yet let me tell ya, this boy is unreal and is what Country Music is all about.
Jon’s album California Sunrise could be the best album of 2016. With his smash hit Head Over Boots and so many other amazing songs on the album his performance on Saturday night was on point. His band of outlaws totally did a fantastic job on opening the show. Now this was also Jon’s first time north of the border playing in Ontario so it was nice to the crowd singing along. My personal favourite from the night was Paycheck. Love that tune, and the way the fellas delivered it was amazing. If you don’t have the album yet we strongly suggest you grab it.
After Jon wrapped up his set it was time for Kip Moore to take the stage. And for those that purchased his last album Wild Ones (New EP UNDERGROUND coming soon) you knew that the night was going to be pretty special. Kicking the night off with the title track Wild Ones it only set the tone for the night. Kip has a special quality that a lot of performers lack these days. Kip really knows how to connect with his audience. And Saturday was no different.
Rolling through his library of songs and the crowd singing along to 80% of what he was puttin’ out there it was incredible. No disrespect to Kip but he isn’t being played on Canadian Country radio to much but to see the crowd singing along and lovin’ it was pretty amazing. I am also a big Frankie Ballard fan so when he sang Frankie’s single Cigarette it was pretty cool to hear.
Another one of the highlights of the night for myself was when he stripped it back and it was just Kip and his guitar on stage. The band had left to grab a beer and a smoke while Kip kept a packed GM Centre totally mesmerized for the length of it. You could hear a pin drop during this part of the set. It also gave one fan a chance to let Kip know that they loved him. Kip was just about to start into a song when a loud male voice screams “I LOVE YOU KIP” which kinda had him chuckle a bit and he let that guy know that he loves them too! It was a hell of a night in Oshawa and we want to thank Invictus Entertainment Group for having us at the show. If you get a chance to catch Kip, Jon or Meghan at a show soon I strongly suggest you do so!
