Ottawa based country singer/songwriter brought her show home for an intimate performance at the National Arts Centre last week.
Mariel Buckley
The show started off with Calgary’s own Mariel Buckley. An emerging live performer, with appearances at the Calgary Folk Music Festival and its winter subsidiary (Block Heater) to her credit, Buckley deftly matches her stark and haunting narratives of real-life struggle with a brassy wit that sets her apart from her contemporaries in its fearlessness.
Mariel stepped up to the mic and from that moment on we were taken in on the adventure. Her beautiful calming vocals along with her mellow performance left us glued to her and then we realized she was finished. Definitely someone to watch for. Check her out online at www.marielbuckley.com
Kelly Prescott
To anyone with relative knowledge of the local music scene here in Ottawa the name Kelly Prescott is a familiar one. Kelly Prescott hails from two musically renowned family lines, spanning three generations from Northern Ontario, Nova Scotia and the Ottawa Valley. She has naturally inherited the foundation to follow her musical heart, drawing inspiration from her great Canadian roots. Imbued with experiences gleaned from growing up in an award winning studio, she has hit the ground running in pursuit of her own musical expression.
Kelly came out in full force with her strong vocals and high energy. Her family was in attendance and at times it felt as though we were part of this intimate interaction she was having with them. Amazing up close and personal performance I was glad to be a part of. For more about Kelly Prescott visit www.kellyprescottmusic.com
