Canada’s own Justin LaBrash on his Ontario Radio Tour 2020 made a stop in Athens at a jammed packed residence for an intimate one-night performance.
Singer/songwriter Justin LaBrash found time in his busy Ontario Radio Tour 2020 schedule to grace this small town with his small 6-string Yamaha guitar and songbook for a brief time before heading back out on to the next radio station. LaBrash is a Canadian Born Saskatchewan country recording artist making waves in the industry. His accomplishments include; 2018 SCMA Emerging Artist of the Year, 2017 SCMA Youth Bursary winner, Two time finalist and runner-up in the 620 CKRM Proudly Saskatchewan Showcase as well as the 2016 Most Promising Entertainer . He has been busy. This was his first time out to this area of Ontario recounting he had played Hamilton and Niagara Region in the past.
LaBrash took the corner stage and set out playing his originals like Friends or Lovers, the title track off last album, and a song he released 4 years ago and says got his foot in the door to radio, Front Row Seat. This would be the only show he had scheduled on the radio tour. His vocals are specific and his articulation is such that you can hear him clearly with presence but still includes that country twang that differentiates him from others. He is definitely on a collision course with the best of them out there.
LaBrash treated the crowd to a new song that he wrote just last week and performed for thew first time tonight,. He recently paired up with charity called OUTRUN RARE. When founder Dave Proctor asked to write a theme song for the charity he put his writing skills to the test and came up with The Power of Rare. The song will be released sometime in late April. A beautiful song that included the words “Have you ever walked between rain drops in the sunshine” that I took a moment to think about. A very interesting set of words.
Covers included Steve Earl’s Guitar Town. LaBrash saw him in Nashville and it was only then that he realized the song was actually about Nashville. Another of his favorites included an old Brad Paisley song that he says not a lot of people know. was Wrap Around. Other covers included songs from Conway Twitty – Hello Darling. Travis Tritt.- Here’s a Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares), Darius Rucker- Wagon Wheel which was the first song he ever played live. He was 14.
If LaBrash in in your area get out and catch his show. A definite up-and-comer to watch out for.
