Saturday night had Ottawa lined up down the block and around the corner on Bank Street. Babylon Nightclub played host to popular artist Canadian artist, Grandson. The sold out show had a mixed genre line up of Just John, The Blue Stones, and headliner Grandson.
The night started with Just John a the crowd trickled in from outside. The hip hop artist based from Toronto, accompanied by mix artist Dom Dias, went through a number of short songs with high energy. Jumping around on stage and trying to warm the crowd up for the headliner, though despite the best efforts, was unable to win the crowd over as much as he would have liked. Encouraging the crowd to dance along with him, the artist was successful in raising some energy in the room as anticipation grew for Grandson.
The Blue Stones took a wild turn in a different direction completely. The blues rock band from Windsor Ontario were quick to win over the crowd with the fast paced rough sound. A lot of fun to watch and listen to the duo were extremely high energy from start to finish. Check these guys out if you have the chance.
Finally for the packed, and now very warm, crowd the wait is over. Grandson got to the stage and went full speed. Moody red and blue lights complimented the songs and vibe perfectly. When energy and things kicked up the lights went full strobe only increasing the crowds excitement.Singing along, bouncing and jumping the it was made clear who the crowd was there to see.
The artist played a mix of old and new songs, as his most recent EP, Modern Tragedy Vol. 2, dropped the day before the show. The second show on the tour, the group was in the groove of things, though still very gracious to everyone for coming out. Making note of the fact that he didn’t know anyone who was at the show, and how cool of a feeling that is to have people wanting to come out to hear and support his music, he thanked everyone for being there.
Grandson’s tour will continue toward Toronto before going into the States. You can find more information HERE.
