Gordon Lightfoot celebrated his 80th Birthday on tour, with a Sunday night stop in Ottawa. The full house in Southam Hall at the National Arts Centre rang him in, after a couple failed attempts, to sing the Canadian legend Happy Birthday.
A surreal sound to hear nearly 3000 people singing to one. The two part show touched on all the classics in shortened forms to ensure more content could be packed into the short set for such a long career. Lightfoot has been in the Canadian industry for 57 years, and has a number of notable songs that had the crowd giving standing ovations. Covered by the greats, it was an absolute pleasure to finally see Gordon play live. All in all, Ottawa came together on a chilly, sleepy, Sunday to celebrate one of Canada’s musical gems and legend.
