Aaron Goodvin started off the entertainment on the main stage and it felt like we were on the sun watching his set as temperatures climbed up into the high 30s with the humidity but that didn’t keep the fans from coming in early to see the early afternoon talent on stage. Aaron only had 40 minutes to work with but it was filled with all his hits “lonely drum” is one of my favorites and even got him some exposure south of the border earlier this year when Bobby Bones featured this song during his show on Sirius XM radio.
Next on the main stage was Steven Lee Olsen and he had a high energy set playing his hits from early on in his career like “make hay while the sun shines” all the way up to his current hit “Nashville or nothing.” He also played some songs that he’s wrote for other artists like Dallas Smith’s “Drop” and Kip Moore’s #1 hit “More girls like you.” He ended his set by throwing out some merch to the crowd and then opening up a beer and chugging it before exiting the stage.
The 6pm slot had Meghan Patrick up on the main stage and she had the crowd dancing and singing along from the first song. About halfway through her set she got a beer delivered down by her mic and she goes oh look at that then reached down and grabbed the tall boy and opened the beer right in front of the mic for everyone to hear the sound of the can opening then had a couple drinks from the can, some in the crowd chanted for her to chug it and she said if she did that she’d be burping the whole next song but as she started into the next song let out a pretty healthy burp into the mic. She also mentioned earlier in the day when asked if she had started planning the wedding yet she just kinda laughed and said “I got the man, the rest are just details” The man being US country star Mitchell Tenpenny who proposed in the same bar where they met in Nashville this past November. As she wrapped up her set she said how Boots and Hearts was her favorite festival in Canada and how lucky she was to be playing the main stage to so many people.
After Meghan I had to run over to the Front Porch stage for the act I was most excited for on Saturday, it was Morgan Wade. I’ve been looking forward to this set for the last 2 weeks since I saw her live for the first time in Michigan at Faster Horses. I think she has a perfect voice and just knows how to get the crowd going, it also doesn’t hurt that she’s easy on the eyes as well. She isn’t a stranger to playing big crowds either as Luke Combs has had her opening up on his recent stadium dates. She played a solid 40 minutes with her hits “last cigarette,” “run” and closed her set with her recent single “wilder days.” Then came back on stage to help assist with a proposal on stage where Morgan played a good distraction because the girl wanted to hug Morgan and she just pointed at the girls bf who was then down on 1 knee after about 5 seconds of shock she did say yes and got a big cheer from the crowd, Congratulations to the newly engaged couple.
Russell Dickerson took to the stage after Meghan Patrick and he was singing and running all over the stage high fiving the fans while singing “Home Sweet” and continued the energy all set despite the high temperatures all set until he concluded with “Blue Tacoma” he definitely got the crowd good and ready for Florida Georgia line.
When it was finally time for Florida Georgia line to take to the stage it had cooled down enough that people were ready to dance along to all the hits that the band has in the decade that they’ve been together. This was the 4th last show that FGL will be doing together as they both want to pursue a solo career. They had the Pyro going off in behind the drummer on a handful of songs and you could feel the heat out in the crowd. I’ve been seeing FGL since 2013 when they opened up on Luke Bryan’s first headlining tour and I could tell that something just seemed off with them, which could be the reason for the split at the end of this month BUT they came out for the encore and played the song that started it all for Brian Kelly and Tyler Hubbard “Cruise” had the whole crowd singing along and they did the handshake mid catwalk like they always have been known for. They thanked the Ontario fans for always supporting them since day 1 numerous times throughout their set and said they were happy to be back at Boots and Hearts one last time.
