The atmosphere was electric and the music was pure and this crowd enthusiastically dove right into the night. College life at it’s best.
Kicking off the night was the talented former member of The Balconies Jacquie Neville. Now a solo act, Neville took complete command of the stage and delivered a performance that immediately increased her fan base as this reviewer quickly jumped on board. Her display of her abilities in the performance of her newly released single, “Lead the Way” was unforgettable. Her connection with the audience was instant. With strong powerful vocals well written songs, Neville is definitely someone you haven’t heard that last of.
Up next was Thunder Bay’s own The Honest Heart Collective who lost no time keeping the momentum going with their unique Indie rock sound and truly catchy tunes. The first thing I noticed was the emotion and passion for what they were playing – it was clear by just watching them each in their own world but playing together as one. As a guitar player I like to think I can recognize talent and I’m pretty sure there was a clinic being put on here tonight. Well played and placed licks with rhythmic that just saw no end in sight. Each song was well performed and kept the audience engaged the entire set ending with calls for an encore. Although not an original of their’s, my favorite moment of the performance was when they did their version of “Helter Skelter” which showed what theses guys are capable of doing. Ending with their song “I’ve Got You” left the crowd calling for more. Well played guys.
Headlining the night was Fast Romantics with their Indie-rock sound and songs sprinkled with intensely catchy hooks that had the crowd singing and dancing the entire set. Playing their new material, which was thoroughly enjoyed, songs from their album American Love also got love from the crowd. Unsure if they would play their cover of Oasis’ Don’t Look Back in Anger I’m confident it was a good choice to do so and based on the audience reception of it, I’d say that decision was unanimous. I thought the performance was very strong and engaging and I’d recommend you get out and catch Fast Romantics when they are in your area next.
