They say good things come in small packages. Cindy Lauper proved that to be true last night in front of a capacity crowd at Vancouver’s PNE Fair.
She treated the crowd with a 70 minute high energy performance, great stories and interaction with the audience.
Show started 15 minutes late but the crowd quickly “forgave” her after the entrance. The stage was hidden behind a giant curtain with an image of just her eyes that seemed to glitter thanks to something affixed onto the material.
As the music started, a silhouette of Cyndi was projected onto the curtain. The audience was treated to different poses and different colors … as she started singing, the curtain dropped to find Cyndi Lauper standing atop a ladder.
Energy of a teenager – dancing, jumping around, laying down on the stage … and walking off and into the crowd!
The first time Cyndi walked out into the crowd right up the middle and the fans went wild … She hopped up onto the barrier step at the end of the reserved section to get above the General Admission crowd.
Cindy made sure she worked the whole stage. Cindy hasn’t lost a beat. It was a great pleasure watching her connect with everyone.
She encouraged the crowd singing along for her “Time After Time” … on their feet … and of course phones out … but that wasn’t the only time … for Girls Just Want to have Fun, her and her back up singer took to the crowd.
Went out to the left (and again to the right) of the stage THROUGH general admission crowd … You had to feel for the poor camera operators because they couldn’t keep up with where she went after the clear path from the first round straight up the center.
She indicated that this was literally her last show for a while because she’s due to start working on a musical adaptation of Working Girl. She had been touring as an opening act with Rod Stewart so it seemed fitting that the last show of the PNE and hers for a while was a solo performance.
