Saturday night at the Grey Cup Festival featured a sold out show of Classic Canadian rockers at Shaw Conference Centre that proved to be a 3+ hour sing-a-long!
Kim Mitchell hit the stage first and was in fine form getting the crowd warmed up for Trooper and Loverboy, not to mention the Edmonton weather outside! Playing through all the fan favorites, it didn’t take much encouraging to get them to chime in for the chorus to songs like “Go for a Soda”, “Easy to Tame”, “Rockland Wonderland”, and yes even “Patio Lanterns” … just to name a few!
There was – what seemed – a pretty quick change up to get Trooper onto the stage next. They were here for a good time, but fans thought it wasn’t a long time … they felt the set was too short and were trying to “Raise a little hell” for more … time really does fly when you’re having fun!
Rounding out the night – and wrapping up technically on Sunday morning – was Loverboy. Somewhere half way through the night a beach ball or two found its way into the crowd … like they cared it was winter weather in Edmonton … PFFT …
By the time Mike Reno walked onto the stage with Loverboy the crowd was on fire and likely wouldn’t have noticed the chill in the air if it had been outside!
