Montreal’s Béatrice Martin, better known by her artistic name “Cœur de Pirate” delighted an eager crowd gasping for music last night at the Danforth Music Hall. After what seemed an eternity it was a breath of fresh air to be able to bask in the sound of her voice. A heavily pregnant Beatrice took in all the love she received from her Toronto audience at the almost sold-out show.
In between songs, Beatrice still managed to crack a few jokes that had the crowd in laughter. She even asserted her right to speak in English when a few members of the public complained and asked that she speak in French to the delight of the rest of the public. It was her banter in English with the audience that made the show feel more intimate.
She played classics such as ‘Dans la nuit’, ‘Isle aux Coudres” and “St Laurent” amongst many other songs spawning her entire career. She was supported by her band when she was not at the piano. Over all it was an amazing evening that many will remember as the night music came back to town. Seeing Beatrice live is so much more than just going to a concert. It’s something that everyone should experience at least once in their lives.
Until next time. take care and stay safe.
