A spectacle. To sum it up, Lollapalooza is an event that brings music lovers from across North America to more than a just another music festival, but to an experience. Taking place in Grant Park on the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago from August 2-5, 2018, this four day event will be one for the summer. With no Wayhome festival this summer, those in Southern Ontario or anywhere else for that matter will want to look into taking a road trip down to Chicago for an even bigger festival.
Taking the top headlining spot is Toronto’s own The Weeknd, followed by another pop superstar Bruno Mars. We then come to the rock headliners, with the boys from Sheffield in the Arctic Monkeys, as well as multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter and former member of The White Stripes Jack White.
Let’s start off with the indie and rock acts, as Lollapalooza started out with mainly these genres, but has evolved over the years to include a diverse range of music. NYC’s Vampire Weekend will be attending, along with The National, and Portugal. The Man. Several strong female led indie acts will be Chvrches, St. Vincent, as well as Aussie Tash Sultana.
Aside from the already mentioned headliners, the pop scene has a bunch of artists to look forward to. Camila Cabello, who sprouted up out of nowhere last year with her hit song ‘Havana’ will be in attendance, as well as Dua Lipa, The Neighbourhood, Zedd, and Khalid. This year’s EDM crowd have a stellar lineup in play, featuring Odesza, Galantis, Dillon Francis, Quinn xcii, and Autograf.
This edition of Lollapalooza also features a strong hip hop presence. A live show that is among some of the best in the rap game, Travis Scott will be sure to have the entire crowd going during his set. Closing out his Everybody tour, Logic makes it back in time for a hometown show. Tyler, The Creator will be back after his biggest album “Flower boy” received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album of the Year. Other big names in the hip hop category include LL Cool J, Lil Uzi Vert, Gucci Mane, Post Malone, and Lil Pump.
A lot of Canadians are in the mix throughout the lineup outside of just The Weeknd, such as Jessie Reyes, Rezz, Daniel Caesar, Stars and Chromeo.
With a lineup full of stars and artists on the come up, the 2018 edition of Lollapalooza will be one that festival-goers will not want to miss out on. Chicago’s Lollapalooza runs from August 2-5, with four-day passes on sale now and one day tickets available soon.
