A spectacle. To sum it up, Lollapalooza is an event that brings music lovers from across North America to more than a just another music festival, but to an experience. Taking place in Grant Park on the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago from August 2-5, 2018, this four day event will be one for the summer. With no Wayhome festival this summer, those in Southern Ontario or anywhere else for that matter will want to look into taking a road trip down to Chicago for an even bigger festival.

The name of the world tour says it all, Decades. Since 1996, Nightwish have defined the entire sub-genre known as Symphonic Metal, which incorporates orchestral classical music and opera in some cases. Although some members may have changed over the years, the direction and the instrumentation were as impressive as ever.

It was a slushy Friday night in Calgary as punk rock fans invaded the University of Calgary’s MacEwan Hall.

Local openers Bayonet took to the task of warming up the crowd. Delighting the crowd with tunes like Shit Hawks and Cougar Bait – which I believe could easily be an autobiography.

Seldom in my time as a reviewer have I come into such a diverse room for a concert. Varying ages and cultural demographics, all discovering their inner Latin vibes in one setting is kind of a cool experience.

The Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival returns June 21 to 24 for its 25^th Anniversary. Highlighting this milestone are free concerts from Sam Roberts Band (21^st), Broken Social Scene (22^nd), Wintersleep and Hollerado (23^rd), and Matt Mays (24^th). 

It might have been cold outside but inside the Dow’s Lake Pavilion at the Ice Dragon Boat Festival the musical talents were the perfect remedy to warm you up. The perfect location for an up-close-and-personal venue of great music. This event seems to get more and more popular year after year.  Once again Ottawa nailed it.

Ottawa based The Riot Police brought their show to The 27 Club in Downtown Ottawa last Friday night.  This group is no stranger to the music scene having been around since 2007 performing at many venues in Toronto, Kingston and at Ottawa’s own Bluesfest and Folkfest.
