On two other occasions, the audience at the Joshua Bates Centre, in Athens Ontario saw a star in the making. They knew they had made a connection with a lad who was going places and they would be able to say they “knew him when”. This happened for the third time on Saturday, January 28th when Tristan Horncastle performed for them. This personable, down to earth Maritimer did an acoustic show accompanied by guitarist Brad Bailey. We learned about his life through songs from his first CD, “A Little Bit of Alright” and his recent CD, “Turnin Up a Sundown” which are available on his website.
Dierks Bentley explodes into a packed Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa
The last time Dierks Bentley came to Ottawa was in December 2014. For that show he brought Tim Hicks and Randy Houser…it was also the first show we ever covered at the Canadian Tire Centre. That show was amazing… last night, however, was something that, when it was over, made me sit in awe asking #WhatTheHell did I just witness.
Ottawa gets loud as Brett Kissel brings Ice Snow and 30 Below to Algonquin
It was a Monday night in Ottawa and all through the city not a creature was stirring…except for a sold out crowd at the Algonquin Commons Theatre who packed the house for our favourite Canadian Kid, Brett Kissel and his Ice, Snow and 30 Below tour.
The Abrams take to the NAC in Ottawa – in photos!

J.W. Jones High Temperature album release party!
Usually when a Facebook event page says 40 people are attending, it’s a Wednesday night, and it’s not a good show. That was not the case tonight at the Rainbow Bistro in Ottawa’s Byward Market.
Talking new music and more with Project Mantra
Project Mantra, fronted by our own Leigh Bursey, has had a busy year in 2016. They released their first music video, first album, had a single played on CBC Radio and went on tour. We sat down with Leigh to talk about their year and their plans for the year ahead.
My Top 20 Concert Shots of 2016
This was my first year really getting serious about doing photography. Admittedly the learning curve was huge, but the development and rewards were 100% worth the struggle. From sneaking my camera into shows at the beginning of the year, to working the stage at the CTC by the end, it’s been a wild ride.
Spencer Rice Brings Something Weird to Ottawa with Project Mantra, Danielle Allard and More
On a cold December Saturday, a dedicated crowd of comedy and music loving friends and supporters packed Cafe’ Dekcuf in downtown Ottawa for a show that was largely unlike any other show I have ever played. (more…)
Who is Kickin’ it with Brett Kissel in Ontario? Now we know!
Last month the CMAO launched a contest in conjunction with Brett Kissel and Invictus Entertainment that would give a number of lucky Ontario musicians the opportunity to open for Brett on his upcoming ‘Ice, Snow and 30 Below Tour’. There were easily hundreds, if not thousands of entries from prospective artists itching for the opportunity to perform with Brett. Now we know who it will be….
Obey The Brave Melt Faces In Ottawa
On a bitter cold night in the nation’s capital, a fire burned brightly at local watering hole and performance venue Maverick’s on Rideau Street. The Diamond Mine Agency hosted their annual holiday party, which included a food drive for local families in need, an ugly sweater contest, and even the infamous Egg Nog Olympics (which I am proud to say I partook in, and though I fought valiantly, I succumbed to the dairy Gods).
