Rain and thunderstorms threatened, late in the day, to washout the second day of RBC Bluesfest 2017 but by the time the first notes rang out the clouds cleared and the crowds descended on Lebreton Flats.
Blue Rodeo keeps ’em thirsty on a hot Friday night in Banff
On another beautiful, unseasonably hot Friday night in Banff, 1500+ people gathered in the Shaw Amphitheater at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity for a sold out show. Canadian music fans showed us that you don’t need to go to the Calgary Stampede for a rockin’ good time on a Friday night.

Serena Ryder gives stellar performance at Ottawa Jazz Fest
I first discovered six time Juno Award winner Serena Ryder a couple of years ago when I heard a live concert broadcast on CBC radio. I liked it. She had a different sound than a lot of newer artists. When she was booked to play Kingston a short time after, I bought tickets to attend. I have been a Serena Ryder fan since that night. I was amazed by her powerful voice and her five-octave range. She did not disappoint on Friday night at Ottawa Jazz Festival. It was another stellar performance by the Millbrook, Ontario native.
Rebels take over the peaks at the Calabogie Mountain Man Festival.
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of summer. Not just the sun and the warmth but most importantly, the festival season. When the festival lineup announcements start popping up in the spring, I get all giddy and start drafting a schedule of the ones I’ll definitely be attending that year.
Ottawa, the city that fun forgot…NOT!
A common saying you’ll hear frequently when living in Ottawa is that it is the city that fun forgot. I’d like to make a case for the exact opposite and all you have to do is take a look at the summer festival season.
EXCLUSIVE – Midnight Shine’s “Northern Men” photo shoot
It just might be the coolest – and coldest – photo shoot ever done by a Canadian rock band, shot in the dead of winter, and being released on the first day of summer dubbed “Northern Men”.
