Ed Sheeran

We’ve just learned that Ed Sheeran will be coming to Ontario in June.  Toronto, London and Ottawa will all get a chance to see this outstanding talent.

I first saw Meghan Patrick at Boots & Hearts in 2013. She was fronting The Stone Sparrows, a local Bowmanville act, and the second she opened her mouth she had my attention. Gorgeous, talented and wearing what turned out to be my favourite boots of the weekend. I think Meghan has the voice of an angel and her new song is stuck in my head.

Cavendish Beach Music Festival

We’ve got two day passes to give away to this summer’s Cavendish Beach Country Music Festival. 

I think it would be an understatement to say things are going well for The Lovelocks.  It’s almost one year to the day, of the release of their first self-titled EP.

Farm Aid board members: Neil Young, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews

Farm Aid co-founders Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp last night announced that the 30^th annual Farm Aid celebration will take place this year on Sept. 19. The pair represented Farm Aid at the 17th annual GRAMMY Foundation^® Legacy Concert, where the GRAMMY Foundation honored the organization for its ability to harness the power of music for social change as the longest running concert for a cause.

It was 1994, and I was packing up and heading to Europe to spend 6 months backpacking and finding myself.   As an 18-year-old Canadian I proudly donned the Canadian Flag on my bag and trekked the European countryside with only two cassette tapes to keep me company.  Both were Canadian albums of course, as I couldn’t imagine not having a piece of Canadiana with me as I made memories that have lasted a lifetime.   One of those cassettes was Mad Mad World by Tom Cochrane.  As a young Canuck heading out for the first time on my own, it was Tom’s voice that created the soundtrack to my first life changing experience as a young man.  It was this album that made me feel like I never left the back roads of the Ottawa Valley.

So last night I took in my 2nd show at the Rose Theatre, nestled in heart of downtown Brampton.  This time around it wasn’t a country act that caught my eye it was a young lad from Petty Harbour, Newfoundland

For the past 4 years Sound Check has gone from a small seasonal blog in the Ottawa Citizen to a full fledged entertainment magazine.  

Lindsay Broughton comes from the small town of Brooklin, Ontario and is one of Curve Music’s top artists. Nominated for female artist of the year in 2014, Lindsay has played major festivals all over the world and is heading into 2015 with a new record, a new single and a new video on the way.
