Canadian Country singer Tim Hicks brought his highly anticipated “Shake this Wall Tour” to Salle Odyssee in Gatineau QC last week and with everyone up on their feet singing and dancing the entire show I’m convinced the evening was a hit.
The moment Canadian Country singer Tim Hicks hit the stage, the placed went wild. The country fans totally embraced the Canadian Country singer/songwriter the entire show as he played hit after hit after hit owning the stage.
Allison Fortier
Opening for Hicks is one of the latest newcomers to rise from within the beautiful province of Quebec, singer/songwriter Allison Fortier. With her unique voice and enthusiasm it didn’t take long to get this crowd pumped up. A strong, and when required, soft voice, was a pleasure to listen to. Her rendition of Shania Twain’s monster hit “Man! I feel like a woman, was a treat that had the crowd singing and dancing. Her performance was fun, flirty and full of talent. She definitely deserved her standing ovation.
Tim Hicks
To say Tim Hicks was loved and appreciated by the audience this night might be an understatement on their true feelings and emotions. As soon as the lights lowered, the band stood like silhouettes while Hicks walked out towards center stage. Almost instantly Hicks made that connection with the crowd that we’ve seen many times before. Cell phones could be seen trying to capture pictures and videos of the man they all came to see. His vocals were impressive as was his guitar playing. For the guitar players in attendance this show was a dream – a guitar players clinic. The sounds and tones coming from the stage left you wanting more and more. At one point,
If you didn’t know better, you’d think you were in for a rock show. The stage setting, the lights, the guitars and solos were reminiscent of a rock show which was all good. Hicks also took the better part of a song to get down into the crowd and let them take selfies and snapchat with him. As hard as he tried to get through the crowd the line never ended leaving him no choice but to make an exit back onto the stage. A true country down home guy who truly appreciates his fans. Hicks has had 7 top ten singles on Canadian Country Radio and has won multiple awards including the CCMA and SOCAN wins and JUNO nominations.
His songs included Slow Burn, Stompin Ground and Slide Over which he wrote for his wife. As all good things do the show had to end. So as the band left the stage the calls for more began. Based on the crowd reaction they knew what song was coming – “Stronger Beer”. The crowd sang as loud as Hicks himself and by the smile on his face he didn’t mind at all. The song was followed by Hicks exclamation “No one up here wants to build a wall” and was probably the loudest cheer from the crowd all night.
