Brett Kissel has FINALLY announced his much anticipated new album We Were That Song today which is currently in pre-sale for full release December 8. This album was creating it with the help of record label Warner Music, and had its release date pushed in order to put the time and energy into each detail. Following his performance at We Day Ottawa, we were lucky enough to be invited to listen to a few tracks on the album with Brett and an intimate audience, where he made it clear how much of himself went into this album describing it as a “labour of love.”
When getting in to each song, Kissel explained that this album is “designed to disarm” fans from what they consider to be his usual style. Tapping into a variety of styles from Calvin Harris inspired EDM, to some heavier sounds, along with the classic country vibe to pull it all together.
Throughout the album Kissel is joined by different collaborators including High Valley, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, and country music legend Charlie Pride. Brett dove into each collaboration and how it came to be, each story unique painting the picture of how the songs formed into the final product. This album had him travelling from out west, down to Dallas to record with Charlie Pride, and overseas where he went to a songwriting camp where he connected with Dave Mustaine. Some songs were written to be collaborations, others adapted to include artists and take the track to the next level.
We were stoked to get a taste of Brett’s upcoming album We Were That Song, and we are excited for it’s full release this December! You can catch Brett live on tour through Ontario and Western Canada straight through into 2018!
