This week in anticipation of the “When The Lights Go Down Tour” kicking off, we had a chance to chat with Jess Mokaluke. She’s a busy woman and was just heading out of an airport when she took the time to answer some questions for Sound Check.

Fresh for #MusicMonday, Jess Moskaluke’s “Night We Won’t Forget Video hit CMT today. The CCMA Female Artist of the Year for 2014 appears in three very different looks. The video is fun and my favourite look is the great pink dress! What’s your favourite look?
Sam Roberts Band Brings the Lo-Fantasy Tour to Toronto’s Massey Hall
It was very cold Valentine’s Day in Toronto but the Sam Roberts Band certainly warmed things up inside Massey Hall last night. Let’s start with the opening act, The High Dials, who turned on the heat. It’s not a coincidence that this band is also a Montreal based act, turns out Sam and Trevor Anderson have known each other since elementary school. The High Dials website describes their music as being “shaded with psychedelic, electronic and folk rock influences but firmly rooted in a timeless pop approach and sensibility.” I found the music had an ethereal feel, with wonderful harmonies, interesting percussion, and provoking lyrics.

Somebody’s Baby: Sarah Beth Keeley
Compared to fellow Canadian artists like Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Terri Clark & Michelle Wright, Sarah Beth Keeley has been working the Canadian Country Music scene since before 2005. SBK (as her fans call her) comes from a musical family and calls Calgary home. She’s been winning awards and releasing albums with regularity and this year she’s hit the big time with her single, ‘Somebody’s Baby’ in the UK. She’s taken the top spot on CM&T, the UK’s only video channel. We had a few questions for SBK and she had a few answers for us.
Meghan Patrick: Canadian Artists to Watch
I first saw Meghan Patrick at Boots & Hearts in 2013. She was fronting The Stone Sparrows, a local Bowmanville act, and the second she opened her mouth she had my attention. Gorgeous, talented and wearing what turned out to be my favourite boots of the weekend. I think Meghan has the voice of an angel and her new song is stuck in my head.

Dallas Smith Hits the Tippin’ Point in Guelph
People were anxious to see Dallas Smith in Guelph. Fans lined up in the cold an hour before the doors opened. Want to avoid the line up? The VIP experience gets you in to see the sound check, a Meet & Greet, commemorative tour laminate and priority access to the merch table. You can check out all the details here.
I wanted to take a minute and say what a beautiful venue this is. The sound was great, I love the old school feel, the balcony and the staff were spot on. It was a pleasure spending time here.
Sundy Best Guelph Stop of the Tippin’ Point Tour
On Wednesday night we had the pleasure of attending the Guelph stop of Dallas Smith‘s Tippin’ Point Tour. Arrangements to interview the guys from Sundy Best in the afternoon but, life has a way of reminding us that sometimes, things are out of our control. First, Corey was unable to attend and that left me in the driver’s seat. We headed into Guelph arriving early for our scheduled time. This gave me time to do some research and put together some questions of my own for Kris and Nick. And then my phone rang. Getting a call from the tour manager, just before your scheduled interview time isn’t usually a good thing. But in this case, it was a quick call to let us know they were a little behind schedule, nothing more.
