In kicking off their first headlining tour in nearly a decade, quite past the scheduled time, but I guess better late than never, the Jonas Brothers opened with “Rollercoaster,” straight out of their latest album, ‘Happiness Begins’ incidentally also the name of the tour.

So when I heard that Rosalía, Spain’s latest musical sensation, was going to be performing in Toronto on her sole Canadian stop, I had to go. Not because I’m a huge fan or because she is from Spain but because my mother was, and I’m sure continues to be wherever she is, a big fan and every time I would visit Spain she would talk about this young flamenco singer/dancer and how amazing she was and how one day she would be a star.

Going to see a July Talk concert these days, for me, is a bitter sweet experience. Let me explain. I first heard about July Talk on the back seat of a mate’s car (Hi Rob) around May 2014. I had no clue who they were or where had they been all my life but I had to see them and I had to see them NOW!!!.
Muse rocks Scotiabank Arena in Toronto
Muse came to Toronto and they brought the 80s back with them. The videos and cover art for their latest album, Simulation Theory, the production design for their arena tour and everything else seems to have been taken out of an 80’s arcade. With loads of neon-style pinks and greens throughout the entire show, It seemed I was watching a musical production of “Ready Player One” instead of a rock concert.

Arctic Monkeys return with new hair but same classic sound after 4 year abscence
The first thing I noticed when the band came on stage was Arctic Monkeys lead singer, Alex Turner, new hair style. Of all the many hairstyles Alex Turner has worn, I don’t think any have ever been as extreme as his latest. Alex shaved off his slicked-back “rico suave” do, bringing crew cut season to Toronto. A great choice given how hot it has been recently.
