Canadian Music Hall of Famer Andy Kim (Singer of Rock Me Gently and writer of the Archies’ hit Sugar Sugar) put on his 15th annual charity Christmas variety show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on December 4th in support of the CAMH’s Gifts of Light Program.

The night featured performances by Tracey Ullman, Jake Clemons, Ron Sexsmith, Sloan, Bif Naked, Men Without Hats, Crash Test Dummies, Jane Siberry, Lorraine Segato of Parachute Club and Jessica Mitchell with Tim Hicks. The incredibility talented musicians had the crowd mesmerized with their powerful performances and perfected ability to interact with the crowd.

One of the biggest stand out performances for me was from Ivan Doroschuk of Men Without Hats. Ivan transported the crowd back in time to 1982 with his performance of his hit single Safety Dance. His unaged vocals and over the top dance moves had everyone engaged and received a standing ovation.

Another stand out performance was from Jessica Mitchell and Tim Hicks. Jessica Mitchell and Tim Hicks were the only performers to perform without the band and they proceeded to shock the crowd with their powerful vocals. I think everyone there that night drove home blaring their song Somebody’s Going to Get Hurt.

As a whole Andy Kim’s 15th annual charity Christmas show was an incredible experience and an opportunity to hear some of the most powerful voices of the Canadian music industry while supporting a great cause. If you have an opportunity to catch one of these shows in the future it is a decision you won’t regret and will become a night you won’t forget.
