All Toque ‘d up to start off Surrey Canada Day Concerts

Brent Fitz, Todd Kerns, Cory Churko formed the band Toque in 2012, initially as a one-off for a charity event in Winnipeg … but when these home grown Canadian guys loved the experience – and Canadian music – so much, they formed their own all-star cover band … but they cover all of their Canadian favorites, not just one artist. Probably the biggest names in music ever to start a cover band and record an album … and the crowd at the Bill Reid Amphitheatre in Surrey BC will be forever grateful.

 

They’ve all had incredible success on their own, performing with the likes of everyone from Slash to Shania Twain to The Guess Who.  In fact, Cory Churko was in Hamilton Ontario for the Shania Twain concert the night before … hopped on a plan after the show to fly cross country to perform in Surrey with Toque.  Most of the crowd hadn’t heard of them … they were there mainly for Brett Kissel and Serena Ryder … but once they got started talking to the crows and playing, they had the audience singing along to pretty much every song.

 

 

There were a few people in the crowd wearing Toque t-shirts who saw them perform a 2 hour set in Vancouver and changed their long weekend plans to make sure they could see them again as part of Surrey Canada Day!  With good reason … there was a LOT of interaction with the crowd – and the photographers in the photo pit.

 

Conversely, the crowd seemed to have their own antics for the band as well.

 

These guys put on a fun-filled show and overall everyone – performers, audience, and photographers alike – had a fantastic time!  So much so that sometimes you just can’t crop out that in advertent drummer photo bomb.

 

 

It was a great way to lead off an evening to celebrate Canada’s 151^st birthday!  Kudos to the organizers for the amazing line-up!
