Well, if you’re a fan of heavy, post hardcore, Canadian music, Rogers Place was the place to be last week as Alexisonfire blasted their way through songs from their archive as part of a small western Canadian tour.
The Distillers opened up the night with their growly California punk rock and played crowd favourites such as ‘City of Angels’, ‘Die on a Rope’ and ‘Drain the Blood’. The crowd loved every second of it and chanted out ‘Brody, Brody’ through the set. It was a perfect way to start off an evening of sweaty, screamy, punk rock music.
Alexisonfire opened the evening with ‘Accidents’ from their 2004 album ‘Watch Out’. Singer George Pettit pogo’d and screamed his way through the song which ultimately came to a huge crowd participation sing-a-long during the breakdown.
The band who consists of George Pettit, Dallas Green, Wade MacNeil, Chris Steele and Jordan Hastings continued through the night playing classic scream-along songs such as ‘Pulmonary Archery’, ‘Boiled Frogs’, ‘Waterwings’ as well as new songs ‘Familiar Drugs’ and ‘Season of the Flood’. Some surprise cover songs were also sprinkled through the night. The drum solo section from Rush’s ‘Tom Sawyer’ and Prince’s ‘When Doves Cry’ were a highlight and the crowd ate it up. Alexisonfire really know how to put on an intense rock show which the rock world desperately needs right now and I for one, hope they put out another record and rip another tour for all their fans worldwide.
