On Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Park Olympic in Montreal, the L’appel Montréal festival headlined by Montreal’s own Half Moon Run took place, filling the evening with Indie Rock.

The lineup featured a mix of English and French artists, including Sandra Contour, Alex Nicol, Gabrielle Shonk, Ariane Roy, Nick Hakim, Men I Trust, and a DJ set by CRi, along with the headliner, Half Moon Run.

Nick Hakim, known for his blend of Alternative Indie Rock with a mixture of R&B and Soul, delivered a texture-rich performance with warm vocals and a heavy bass line. The set felt intimate and relaxed, as if Hakim and his band were performing in a small venue rather than the Olympic Park.

Montreal’s Men I Trust captivated the audience with their melodies and Emma Proulx’s beautiful voice, creating a magical summer evening atmosphere. Their minimalistic stage presence and tight musicianship made it easy for fans to fall in love. Emma’s charming interactions and the band’s precise guitar work and pulsating bass drove the crowd into a funk-based euphoria, especially with tracks like “Fiero GT” and their popular hit “Show Me How.”

During the setup for Half Moon Run, CRi’s DJ set kept the energy high, getting everyone pumped and dancing with the Olympic Stadium as a backdrop.

Half Moon Run hit the stage with all smiles, opening with “You Can Let Go,” which had the crowd singing along instantaneously. Tracks like “Hotel in Memphis” kept everyone grooving, with their music evolving into danceable beats. The band’s use of layered vocals, various percussions and stunning guitar solos, without going over the top, showcased their musical skill.

The encore featured favorites like “Fix You,” “Daddy,” and “Grow Into Love,” a perfect way to close the evening was with “Full Circle.” The crowd became a choir, taking over lead vocals, ending the evening on a high note. Everyone left energized and inspired.
