On August 10, 2024, the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, was set ablaze by a night of unforgettable music.

Iconic Canadian band Platinum Blonde kick-started the show with their synth-driven rock. Fueled by Mark Homes’ distinctive vocals, the band delivered a tight, energetic set led by “Standing in the Dark” that transported the audience back to the glory days of 1980s new wave. As they closed with hits “Crying Over You” and “Doesn’t Really Matter”, the band’s polished performance had the crowd buzzing and ready for the night’s main event.

The legendary Billy Idol took the stage with a fierce rendition of “(Do Not) Stand in the Shadows,” immediately captivating the audience. His signature sneer and punk-rock charisma were on full display, making it impossible for the crowd to stay seated. The energy was immaculate and reminiscent of the early 1980s when Billy Idol was considered one of the lead artists of MTV’s “Second British Invasion”.

The night’s standout moments included “Eyes Without A Face” showcasing Idol’s ability to craft timeless hits. Although softer than most of his other hit singles, this track from the Rebel Yell album had the crowd singing along. Steve Stevens followed with a guitar solo that can only be described as epic. “Mony Mony,” a cover of the Tommy James & the Shondells classic that topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987, brought the audience together in a communal, electrifying experience.

One of the more surprising standout moments had to be when Idol performed a cover of the Rose Royce hit “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”. Performed as a duet with one of his backup singers, the powerful vocals sent the energy through the roof. The energy peaked with “Rebel Yell,” inspired by a night of partying with The Rolling Stones. The crowd roared as Idol performed the track, a cornerstone of his career.

After a brief break, Idol returned for an encore that included “Dancing With Myself,” a nod to his roots with Generation X, and closed with “White Wedding,” leaving the audience buzzing with excitement.

In under two hours, Billy Idol and Platinum Blonde proved that they are still absolute forces. The combination of iconic hits, high-energy performances, and a connection with the audience made this concert an unforgettable experience.
