On November 2nd, downtown Toronto at Fort York National Historic site the goal of Highway Of Heroes Tree Campaign 2.5 millionth tree had been planted. Surpassing the initial goal of 2 million set back in 2014.
A beautiful day to celebrate a victorious feat set by those who had a dream. What’s the worst that could happen from dreaming big? It actually happening? In fact it actually did happen and it’s growing by the day, literally. Sound Check Entertainment was delighted to receive an invitation to be a part of the historic day and our photographer Elliott Deseure made the long trek to Fort York.

A stunning opening ceremony led by bagpipes and accompanied by our Canadian Armed Forces. “For those who gave it all, we give it back.”

After learning all that the Highway Of Heroes Tree Campaign had endured, it’s amazing to see where they are today and all that they have accomplished and will accomplish in the future. It’s truly remarkable the impact just a few can make to have a global effect, a gift that keeps giving. Learning more about HOFTC throughout the day we know that something bigger is coming in the future yet to be revealed.
“When is a tree more than just a tree? The answer is when the tree is part of a memorial to honour Canada’s fallen heroes. We have planted over 2 million trees for all Canadians that have served during times of conflict since Confederation and including the War of 1812. 117,000 of the most prominent trees were planted along and near the stretch of the 401 known as the Highway of Heroes: one tree for every life lost while serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. This tribute provides a myriad of environmental benefits and offers an opportunity to tell the story of those who have served in the Armed Forces, reminding future generations of the great debt we owe these courageous Canadians.The Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign is funded by Veterans Affairs Canada, the Government of Ontario, Cullen’s Foods, Landscape Ontario, Forests Ontario, Ontario Trillium Foundation, TD Bank, the City of Toronto, Intact Public Entities, the City of Quinte West, Harrington & Associates, Rotary District 7070, Maple Leaves Forever, and the Garden Club of Toronto.” (HOHTC)
