Two of Canada’s legendary bands hit the stage at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Orleans on the sixth night of a seven-night Northern Happiness tour across Ontario.

It was a sold-out theatre filled with fans who came to hear their favorite bands play the songs that they grew up with in the 80s. The Northern Pikes came out rocking with King of His Castle from their 2019 album, Forest of Love.  They played a selection of their new material as well as their hits such as Teenland, Wait for Me, Girl with a Problem. Grapes of Wrath member Kevin Kane joined the Northern Pikes in 2018 so we were treated to two Grapes of Wrath songs, All the Things I Wasn’t and Peace of Mind.  The closing song, She Ain’t Pretty which they incorporated some snippets from I Want You to Want Me by Cheap Trick, had the crowd dancing in the theatre and singing along.  The energy was evident on stage from the band members, as bass player Jay Semo explained had been playing together for more than 35 years.

You could tell that The Pursuit of Happiness band on stage was having fun from the way they interacted with each other and the audience as they went through their setlist playing hit after hit.  Hard rocking guitar chords, silky vocal harmonies and a great back beat . . . . it doesn’t get better than that! Fans would scream out the names of songs they wanted to hear and lead vocalist and guitarist Moe Berg assured them it was coming and no one would be disappointed and he was right!  Off the top, Hard to Laugh got everyone energized and they continued through their hits such as She’s So Young, Beautiful White, Two Girls in One, Gretzky Rocks and of course everyone was up for the closing song I’m an Adult Now.
