Carly Pearce at the Opera House: End of the 29 Tour

As everything must come to an end, Carly Pearce had to end her 29 Tour somewhere, and she chose the Opera House in Toronto. She turned her horrible 29th year into a hit record, so who knows what she’ll do with all the praises and success she earned in the last year?

Hannah Ellis was her opening act. Hannah presented her song in an acoustic format, just her and a guitarist, and it suits her songs well. She offered the crowd a mix of her songs, seasoned with a few well chosen covers, such as Better Dig Two by The Band Perry and Still the One by Shania Twain. All in all, a very well received performance.

Of course, everybody was here to see and hear Carly Pearce. She managed to turn her very public divorce into a hit album, 29: Written in Stone, she became a member of the Opry, and she won the ACM Female Artist of the Year. Music wise, her latest album takes a turn toward a more traditional sound as compared to the more Pop approach of her first two.

For the show, she played that third album in its entirety, but changed the order of the songs. Of course, she HAD to start with Diamondback. That song set the tone for the whole evening. The crowd sang with her all night. For some, it was a very cathartic experience, wanting to get free of their own breakup, and for others, it was just plain fun.

Since Ashley McBryde could not tour with her, Carly invited Hannah Ellis back on stage to sing Never Wanted to Be That Girl with her, the song that won the ACM Musical Event of the Year. The girls had good chemistry on stage, and the crowd invited itself to the performance.

Carly Pearce revisited her past in the encore, playing 3 of her most popular songs: Every Little Thing, Hide the Wine and I Hope You’re Happy Now. The last one, being the perfect song to end the evening.
