We’re changing things up a bit this week and turning the spotlight to a trio of young women you likely have not heard of yet. These three women are our finalists for the 2020 Sing Out for CHEO Emerging Artist competition. The winner will be crowned this coming Saturday at the 4th Edition of Sing Out for CHEO being held at Lone Star St. Laurent.
Kloe Bertrand
Khloe was the runner up at the 2019 event but the competition was so close we have invited her to come back again this year and give it another shot.
Khloe is no stranger to music competitions having finished as a runner up in the 2019 Ottawa Idol plus she’s the defending champion in the Female 18 and under category at the Northern Ontario Open Country Singing contest held annually in North Bay, Ontario.
Khloe’s submission video for this year’s event features her performing an original called “It’s Who I Wanna Be”. Khloe wrote this song for people who are struggling to find who they are. She wants it to be a reminder to them that no matter how tough times get or how alone you feel, you have to push through because you are loved. It’s all about how you handle these tough times and push through them that will determine who you become. We learn and grow from our mistakes but it helps shape us as people.

Elizabeth Jones
Elizabeth has been singing since she was very young. She loves the stage and performing and in 2017 she won Ottawa Idol! She has 3 songs on all the music sites. Fun fact Lizzy is an employee of Cheo. She works as a health care aide alongside the nursing staff. She even uses some of her spare time to volunteer and sing to the kids on her days off. This past year she was a top 11 finalist in the one artist Ontario competition.
“Ever since I was a little girl I knew I was suppose to work at Cheo. When I was there as a kid I didn’t feel sick. I wasn’t worried, I knew I was in good hands. I told my mom I was gonna help the kids just like me one day. Now everyday I get to live that dream and work as a health care aide at Cheo. Every christmas season since my date of hire I come in on a Saturday I’m off and sing for the kids there. I love everything Cheo does and what it stands for. I’m honoured to be a part of it.”

Toline Mehdi
Toline is 19 years old and lives in Gatineau. She’s currently a student at Cégep, she’s also a vocalist, songwriter and started playing guitar a year ago. She’s fluent in 4 languages and can sing in more than 6.
“I started performing about a year ago, when I lived in Europe on my gap year. I want more opportunities to perform live in my region. Events like these are the ones that make me the most excited, because there is such a humane cause behind them and that’s what I’m all about, spreading awareness and positivity. I do not have experience with CHEO but I would be so happy to get to know the people who do such wonderful work there. My goal is to become a recording artist and play around the world.”
