Each year Boots and Hearts showcases some of the worlds biggest and best country artists on their stages for one weekend in August. But Boots and Hearts, and it’s partners, also play host to one of the most reputable emerging artist competitions in the country.
Tebey, Tim Hicks, The Reklaws and the James Barker Band are just a few of the artists that have the Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist showcase to thank for their success. This year we’ve got 8 more artists vying for the coveted title and over the next week or so we’re going to introduce you to each of them.
Aside from the title of 2019 Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist of the year this year’s winner will get the opportunity to perform before Kane More on the Main Stage on August 11, a single release with our friends Warner Music and a trip to Nashville which includes: Flight and hotel expenses, $500 spending cash, Professional songwriting session and a Professional photoshoot.
First up is Toronto, Ontario based Justin Tyler. Justin just released his debut album All About Her on Friday July 25 and took the time to answer a few questions for us earlier this week.
#1: Hundreds, if not thousands, of musicians submit for their chance to make the top 8 in this annual showcase. You are facing off against 7 of your peers for a chance at the title of 2019 Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist of the Year a title shared with artists like Tebey, The Reklaws, James Barker Band and Jade Eagleson to name a few. What made you apply for this opportunity?
It was a no brainer for me, as an emerging artist you’re always looking for opportunities to showcase your talent. I’ve been a fan at boots and hearts for years, it’s been my dream since my first time attending to play this show. When I saw the Chevy Music Boot and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase, I knew this was a shot I wanted to take and I’m so excited to get out there.
#2: Every artist I’ve spoken to has a story about how / when they decided to purse music as a career. Describe the moment that you knew that music was the path for you.
Well initially I thought it would be a hobby of mine forever so I continued to write songs while in university and then the breakthrough moment was when I got my first job and realized am I leaving a “what if” on the table. It was then that I showed my songs to my producer and we both decided there was no way we couldn’t give this a try.
#3: What’s your all-time favourite movie?
Shawshank Redemption
#4: Your ideal brain food?
Doritos Nacho cheese
#5: If you could see any artist in concert, who would you see (living or dead)?
My answer is Thomas Rhett and I just saw him two weeks
#6: Name a fictional character most like you?
Roadrunner from the Looney Tunes
#7: If you were a superhero what would be your superhero name?
Supervoice cause I’d stun people with my high notes
#8: Who are your musical influences that inspired you to follow in their path? What artists today, if any, inspire you to continue down that path?
My main influences have been Thomas Rhett, Mitchell Tenpenny and Dan + Shay
#9: You’re going on a world tour as a headliner, who would you pick to open your tour for you each night?
Luke Combs for sure
#10: Tell us why you should be crowned the 2019 Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase winner?
I put everything I have into my music. I know this is what I want to do and that this is what I’m going to be doing for the rest of my life. I think people connect with my music and if given the title I will continue to show up and work hard so I can be one of the artists mentioned in the first question.
The Boots and Hearts Emerging artists will be performing at Boots and Hearts next Thursday, if you’re going to Boots and Hearts be sure to come out and show your support. These are the stars of tomorrow but they need your support TODAY!
