Big Sky Music Festival sets the mood for country music at Burl’s Creek

As I left my house for the drive to the first ever Big Sky Music Festival at Burl’s Creek, which is also home to Boots and Hearts, the skies seemed to get darker as we got closer to the Great Lakes, would this inaugural event be a washout? Well once we finally arrived at Burl’s Creek the skies cleared and bright blue skies with no cloud in the sky paved the way for a perfect day.

As the day went on, the humidity got a lot more intense, it was reaching 90 degrees so there were a lot of people freshening up with bottles of water. The festival had huge fans that were blowing cold water on those who wanted to refresh their faces and cool off at the station.

A lot of great classic cars fought out the hot temperatures and came out to enjoy a great day of LIVE country music.

The RedHill Valleys put on a very entertaining show to get the crowd pumped up for a great day of music, they started with some new tunes including “Finish Line”, “Burn it Down” and “Travel Well”. RedHill Valleys fans and I could hardly wait until they played their biggest hit song, “Either Or”, which, when I came, really got the crowd dancing.

Mason Ramsey fans, of all ages, couldn’t stop cheering for Mason. This talented, young, artist has his roots set for years to come. His set included “Before I Knew It”, “Puddle of Love”, “Famous” and one of his biggest hits, “Twang”. At one point he noticed a young girl at the front of the stage cheering for him, he smirked and pointed at her to go to the side of the stage where he autographed her shirt and hat.

Travis Tritt‘s fans were already dancing before he took the stage, but once Travis walked onto the stage the crowd really blew up welcoming him back to Canada, Travis told the crowd that he was more than happy to return to a Canadian stage and this won’t be his only stop. Travis would perform his greatest hits “I’m Gonna Be Somebody”, “Where Corn Don’t Grow”, “Anymore” and “Take it Easy”,

 

Tim Hicks – While Tim was at his cottage for the weekend, he got a phone call from Republic Live, while he was out on the lake fishing. They asked if he could make it to Burl’s Creek to fill Diamond Rio’s slot later that day. Tim didn’t hesitate and, in true Tim fashion, dropped what he was doing and joined the lineup of amazing artists with an incredible, and rare, acoustic performance. Tim really fired everyone up and got us all really pumped up for the headliner, Big & Rich, with his hits “Stronger Beer”, “Stompin’ Ground” and “Hell Raisin’ Good Time”. We look forward to catching Tim again in a few weeks, with the rest of his band, at Boots and Hearts.

Big & Rich were added to the lineup late in the week after health issues forced Alabama to cancel their appearance. Many fans saddled up their horses and road out of the city to catch their incredible set.

As Big & Rich finished their 4th song the rain started. After a hot day in the sun the rain didn’t dampen many spirits, most of the fans in attendance welcomed it as an opportunity to cool off while enjoying the music.

Highlights from Big & Rich included their hits “Comin’ To Your City”, “Fake ID” and more before finishing their set off with “Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy” which the crowd sang along with word for word, loud enough to be heard in downtown Toronto.

We had a blast at Big Sky Music Festival and truly hope they bring it back for another year in 2020. Looking forward to heading back to Burl’s Creek in a few weeks for the party of the summer at Boots and Hearts…see ya’ll there!
