The 11th annual Beaumont Blues and Roots Festival took place in Beaumont Alberta the weekend of June 15-17. Known as “Canada’s biggest little music festival”, it is the country’s longest running all Canadian content music festival, highlighting the best in all music genres, not just blues and roots, including pop, folk, rockabilly and country music. While the festival has always included a fairly even split between male and female artists, this year is the first time they have scheduled an all female Friday, headlined by Serena Ryder.
Serena Ryder brought a diverse set to close out the night. The audience was treated to everything from a full band and light show to an intimate living room feel acoustical solo, but she wasn’t singing alone for long as the crowd joined in.
Serena even brought up a few of the performers from earlier in the evening to join in on a few songs. Hannah Georgas was up on stage early on in the set for a song as well Terra Lightfoot towards the end of the evening.
As part of the #ForAGirl initiative in support of marginalized and mistreated women, the 100% volunteer run, non-profit festival donated a portion of ticket sales to the Sexual Assault Center of Edmonton (SACE).
