Growing up in Norfolk County fall has easily become my favourite time of year, and when October rolls around my countdown for the Norfolk County Fair starts. As a child and teen I grew up going to the fair every Tuesday for Young Canada Day and cheering on my respective schools. My very first concert was Charlie Major at the fair when I was a kid. So this year having the opportunity to photograph some of my favourite country artists at a fair that I hold so near and dear to my heart was one I’ll never forget.
Kicking off the Thanksgiving long weekend on Friday night was Tim Hicks and boy did he ever put on one heck of a show! I’ve seen Tim a number of times this summer but there was just something about seeing 5,000 people from my stomping grounds partying right along with Tim made for pretty incredible night. A packed track and and even tighter crowd up in the grandstands Tim had Simcoe rocking all night. Tim played some old favourites, a tribute to Tom Petty and his latest hits “Slide Over” and “Forever Rebels” along with some new music that he debuted to the capacity crowd who didn’t let a little rain dampen their spirits.
Saturday night brought another capacity crowd to the track and grandstands for the second half of our double dose of Canadian country music with BC native and ex- NHL’er Chad Brownlee. There are two big things we love in Norfolk County; Hockey & Country Music so Chad was the perfect fit to get the party going Saturday night. Playing crowd favourites “Carried Away”, “Where the party at?” and current hits like “Hate you for it” and “Hearts on Fire” to slowing it down with another tribute to Tom Petty much like his good buddy Tim the night before.
With two amazing nights of Country music we cannot wait to see what the great folks at the Norfolk County Fair have in store for us in 2018!
