Those that know me, know that I love all things Australian. So when I heard that Melbourne singer-songwriter Liz Stringer was going to be in town, opening for Tim Moxam, I didn’t hesitate. Grabbed my camera, got on the car and off I went.

Liz is like Vegemite, you either love her or hate her. Now that I think about it, hate maybe too strong a word, so let just go with like/dislike. I loved her!!! I have to disclose that prior to tonight, I had never heard of Liz so this is not a fanboy review of any sorts. This is the honest, hard truth of what i heard and saw. You go see her and make up your own mind.

I was surprised to learn that Liz has actually released 5 studio albums. She is a seasoned musician and it shows. Her voice is husky, soulful and so enthralling that it takes you to far away places with minimal effort. The songs that she choose to share with he audience were all very personal based directly on her own personal experiences. Stories about her friends, their mothers and so forth. Such an intimate exchange of stories that you cannot help but share an empathic bond. Its like you’ve know her forever. Get to know more about Liz at her website here: www.lizstringer.com

Her set ended so quick that left me wanting for more. That, my friends, is a good sign.

What a treat! After Liz Stringer’s act, I didn’t think anything else could top it. Well I was wrong. Dead wrong. Enter Tim Moxam!!! The man is a melange of Folk Country and Pop. He has a “je ne sais quoi” happy aura about him and you cannot help it, but fall for his charm. He performed with emotion, despite his injured finger and the hard work and enthusiasm that he puts in his music is pretty obvious to those listening.

Just as with Liz, his time on the stage felt too short. Tim quickly built a rapport with the audience. His charming stage presence created a bond and I don’t think it could have gotten any better other than if we were stuck in groundhog day and we got to relieve the entire set again and again.

The strength of Moxam’s voice and his top notch backing band were a perfect end to a perfect night out in Toronto listening to, once again, amazing live music.
