The Crazy Horse in Kanata converted their parking lot to a stage where Kira Isabella took over Friday night, and River Town Saints stormed in Saturday. Both put on one hell of a show!
Kira Isabella
On Friday night, people flocked to The Crazy Horse for an amazing night full of fun music, great drinks and good company!
Kira took to the stage sporting an adorable outfit that highlighted her petite figure and showed off her country flair with some fringe hanging of the sides. She kicked the night off strong and showed us her incredible talents and range. Singing both her own and covering some incredible hits. Isabella channeled her inner ‘thug’ and even rapped Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Can’t Hold US” – and based on this country girl’s opinion… Nailed it!
Around the half point of her show, Isabella switched to some of her newer songs that she’s been working on. Saying “That seeing as Ottawa is her hometown, [she] doesn’t mind trying out the new stuff on [us]”. She definitely didn’t hear any complaints from this audience as she played a few ballads and sappy love songs. Calling on all the couples in the audience, then quickly switching gears and giving a shout out to anyone who had gone through a breakup recently.
Kira had an incredibly energy and commanded the crowd’s attention for her entire set. I would have loved a few more upbeat songs, but all in all in her show was a treat to be present for! She had a good mix of her singles, a few incredible covers (including Ed Sheeran and the Chainsmokers… just saying!). Isabella interacted with everyone, and you could tell that the stage is where she belongs, exuding confidence and comfort as she strutted around!
Isabella puts on a fun upbeat liveshow that you should all try to catch!
The River Town Saints
The River Town Saints hosted quite a party Saturday night! Everyone was dancing and singing and having an amazing time! Boy do these guys know how to get everyone engaged!
RTS didn’t let a little rain stop them! Barely even stopping to acknowledge that it was pouring. The only indicators were the puddles forming on stage, and Chris Labelle resorting to taking of his boots so that he could be his wild, crazy, energizer-bunny self, without having to worry about slipping and sliding all over the place!
Over the course of the night, River Town Saints played some of their old stuff, some of the stuff off their recently released self-titled album, and some new songs that I had never heard before! As always, they sounded incredible and put on an amazing live show!
One of the highlights for me was when Dan DiGiacomo, the bassist, took the mic from Labelle, and started to rap “In da club” by 50 Cent. Never did I expect, at two country shows, in two nights, to have two different singers rap! It’s the new thing!
The other stand-out for myself was how every member of RTS takes joy and pride in being able to make fun of the others. This is clearly a band of guys who are truly friends first, bandmates second! Their rapport on stage is incredible and infectious, causing the audience to laugh, like they were a part of the inside joke all along!
A clear cut example of this incredible chemistry is when Labelle used songs to narrate DiGiacomo’s life. Saying how for the longest time, himself, McComb, Bortot, and Potvin all had girlfriends, or fiances, or wives… and then there was Dan! Poor Dan! Labelle went on to narrate, using both a storyteller voice and songs how Dan finally…FINALLY got the girl. And it just so happened to be his highschool sweetheart!
Although it doesn’t seem like much, this story broke up the show and broke the fourth wall. Making the audience feel a little bit closer to the band, and like they were in on some big secret!
All in all, River Town Saints is an exceptional band with a fun upbeat sound that everyone loves! If you get the chance, check out these guys live, and if you don’t… well their new self-titled album is out now!
