The 10 man band completely enveloped stage at PNE amphitheater during te final weekend of the PNE Fair in Vancouver BC.
They had a special stage with led below the drums and keyboard riser with enormous Chicago logo as a backdrop. The riser had 2 sets of stairs on either side of the drums, making it easy for the other members of the band to walk up and interact with those up there. It may have been “crowded” but they did a great job interacting with each other as well as the crowd.
The set was mostly instrumental with the most noted songs being their commercial successes. When they began “If You Leave Me Now” a sea of cell phones came out to record, while others sang along, and a few couples in the General Admission area started slow dancing. A few people in the reserved seats up front tried dancing too, but the die hard fans that for whatever reason were in General Admission put that to a quick end. They had apparently gotten in line a full 8 hours before the show in order to secure a prime viewing spot for the band and they weren’t interested in watching fans block their views dancing.
A few other songs from the Chicago 17 album, “Hard Habit to Break” and “You’re the Inspiration” also had fans singing along.
The merchandise booth was the busiest I’ve seen yet at the PNE this year … and it wasn’t JUST shirts, although there were special edition “Chicago in Canada” shirts as well as commemorative books, shot glass, bottle opener, and key chains.
Chicago is making their way East following their show in front of a capacity crowd in Vancouver. For more information on tour dates and music, be sure to visit www. ChicagoTheBand.com
